VACCINE MANDATE: As deadlines approach, some employees seek legal advice

DENVER (KDVR) – United Airlines is set to lay off hundreds of employees who refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Mandates across the country are increasing immunization rates. FOX31 is starting to see ads from lawyers promising to help clients in government and private professions achieve exempt status.

United told FOX31 the company was prepared to lay off 593 employees who chose not to meet vaccine requirements.

A spokesperson for the company provided a statement saying that “our vaccination policy continues to prove that the requirements work – in less than 48 hours, the number of unvaccinated employees who have started the separation process. the company was reduced by almost half, from 593 to 320.. “

The airline says that at this point 99.5% of United’s U.S. employees will be vaccinated, with the exception of those with an exemption.

Labor law expert Bryan Kuhn helps those seeking exempt status challenge the employer’s demands.

“They feel that their state of health and their health choices should not be dictated by an employer,” he said.

Kuhn cautions against any law firm offering a victory, no matter what. He says some may make “a promise or guarantee of a ready-made outcome without even hearing the situation or the case.”

Kuhn says those who think they need to choose a lawyer should choose a professional who will be direct in their case.

“A lawyer who will tell you what you don’t want to hear… they’re trying to see if you actually have a case,” Kuhn said.
