Some Iowa Schools Rush To Reinstate Face Mask Requirements After Judge’s Ruling |

“Due to the circulating and highly contagious Delta variant, the CDC recommends universal indoor masking by all students (ages 2 and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, which regardless of their vaccination status, “says the CDC school guide.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, which represents 67,000 pediatricians across the country, also recommends that all school staff and students wear face masks.

“The AAP recommends universal masking because a significant portion of the student body is not yet eligible for vaccines, and masking has been shown to reduce virus transmission and protect those who are not vaccinated,” says its guidelines .

The virus is rising for the third time in Iowa, and new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are reaching numbers not seen since last winter’s outbreak, which was the deadliest point in the pandemic and before vaccines are widely available.

Davenport: The Davenport Community School District would have been threatened with the law had it not passed a mask warrant, his lawyers told school board members before adopting a district-wide policy to begin to wear masks next week.

The board’s decision, passed by 5-2, was based at least in part on guidance from the CDC. Hospital intensive care units have been nearly full in the Quad Cities for weeks, and cases in children are on the rise.
