Prescott Police Department Receives State Accreditation from Arizona Chiefs of Police and Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program

The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) has awarded the Prescott Police Department full police accreditation through the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP).

The Prescott Police Department was one of the first in Yavapai County and a leader in the state to seek accreditation and go through all the necessary steps to be mandated as an accredited agency by the ALEAP commission. and the AACOP board of directors. These steps included; a two-year self-assessment (which the Prescott Police Department completed in 9 months), a mock assessment, a sight assessment, and a hearing before the ALEAP Commission. The Prescott Police Department has met or exceeded the 174 standards approved by the AACOP Board of Directors.

According to the Prescott Police Department, the benefits and value of certification include:

  • Ensure PPD meets industry standards and best practices through validated standard measurements for superior quality and safety results.
  • Improve officer safety and public safety.
  • Ensure accountability, transparency and build trust with the Community.
  • Ensure that the PPD, through audits, evaluations, inspections and validation processes, that their operations, policies and procedures correspond to practice.
  • Ensure the operational readiness factor of the PPD to better serve and protect the community of Prescott.
  • Reduce exposure, risk and liability, and also help with grants and funding.
  • To provide the community and each member of the PPD team with the knowledge and pride that the PPD has met the highest professional policing standards.

“This is a significant achievement for the ministry and we are satisfied with the entire process, the end result and the evaluation,” said Police Chief Bonney. “We continue to look for ways to elevate the professionalism of the Department and this accreditation is certainly another big step in that direction. This process ended with the granting of full accreditation status to the police service. The evaluator’s assessment was very complementary not only to our policies and procedures, but equally important to the professionalism and culture in which we operate in the police service.
