ACC and Empsight Launch 2022 Legal Department Compensation Survey | Nation/World

Washington, DC, May 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Association of Corporate Counsel, in partnership with Empsight, has launched its third consecutive Legal Services Compensation Survey of 2022. The survey, which began May 3 and due to end on June 3, allows both individual lawyers and legal departments to compare their compensation to relevant legal departments of peer firms of similar size and scope and is published in multiple editions.

The Self-Reported Edition allows individual attorneys and legal operations professionals in the United States to report their own compensation data in an easy-to-fill, mobile-friendly format. Those who complete the survey will be able to access the self-reported survey report for free once published.

Enterprise-sourced edition allows Legal and HR/Compensation departments to complete the survey for all of their legal staff, including executives, attorneys, paralegals, legal operations, compliance , government relations, confidentiality and administrative support.

The survey can be conducted on the ACC website at www.acc.com/compensation. The link will ask participants to declare their data themselves or have it filled in for their entire legal department.

“The high-quality data that will result from this survey will be incredibly helpful during this time of remote work, big resignation, inflation, and several other factors impacting employment,” said Blake Garcia, senior director of economic intelligence at ACC. “For individuals and legal departments, this compensation data will prove extremely useful in assessing the value of legal skills in the job market and benchmarking compensation practices against others.”

“This compensation dataset differentiates itself from others on the market because the published editions meet the unique needs of legal departments and individual attorneys,” said Jeremy Feinstein, CEO and co-founder of Empsight International. “With approximately 20,000 legal professionals represented in the data each year, it is difficult to match the breadth of what will be available in this report for businesses and individuals.”

Content of the survey

The Survey collects data on base salary and short-term and long-term incentives. Company demographics are also collected to enable the presentation of important data segmentation in the resulting benchmarking report. These include company revenue, legal department size, industry, legal practice area, geography, and law class year. Other questions relate to eligibility for remote work, benefits offered by employers, career path, career mobility and key skills. Data is validated for matching and analyzed by compensation consulting professionals and special attention is paid to maintaining confidentiality.

Release of the report

  • A self-reported edition of aggregated results is produced that captures only individual submissions representing businesses of all revenue sizes. This edition, which covers lawyers and legal operations positions, is offered free of charge to all participants. The data is also offered in the form of single job title reports for those with limited interest in very specific jobs.
  • Data from the company is used to produce three aggregated reports reflecting the size of the company’s revenue: small business, medium-sized business and large business (business revenue is one of the main compensation drivers). Each company report presents the full range of compensation data for the full set of submitted job titles (over 90 titles included in the large company edition). Company reports are published in Excel and PDF formats that can easily be uploaded to HRIS/Market Pricing systems for companies to benchmark against other data sources.
  • The series of reports will be released in late September and can be accessed via www.acc.com/compensation. In the meantime, feel free to check out the summary of 2021 highlights or check out previous reports here.
